Being a dairy producer is a way of life. I love what I do. I'm proud of what the 100% Canadian Milk symbol represents, and proud that my farm provides Canadians with some of the best milk in the world.

My animals are a big part of my life. I'm with them every day, making sure they have what they need to be healthy, safe and well taken care of. I am devoted to my animals and to my farm, and proud of the role I play in Canada's traditions and economy.

A source of pride

Dairy is part of Canada's history. I'm proud of the many varieties of dairy products offered by Canadian processors. When you see the 100% Canadian Milk symbol on dairy products, you know that you're getting products made from locally produced milk, renowned for its quality, purity and great taste.

As a dairy producer, I know how much care and attention to quality goes into every litre of Canadian milk. The exceptional quality of our 100% Canadian milk is something we can all be proud of.

Freshness

From the farm to your table, I work closely with my local processor to ensure that fresh milk is sent to processing plants in my region. Once milk is drawn, it is immediately cooled and kept at or below 4°C (40°F) at all times. The milk is then inspected and graded to ensure that it is safe.

Milk is transported to the dairy processing plant in clean, stainless steel tanker trucks that are used exclusively to transport milk and potable water.

At the processing plant, milk goes through additional testing in order to meet strict standards for quality, ensuring it is antibiotic-free. If antibiotics are detected, the milk is properly disposed of. Milk is also tested for temperature, acidity and odour before it can be processed.

Quality control

How do I ensure the exceptional quality of milk produced on my farm? All Canadian milk must meet rigorous quality control standards. An on-farm food safety program enables me to prevent, monitor and reduce risks by continuously improving my food safety management practices.

My farm is regularly inspected to ensure that everything is clean and functioning properly. Meanwhile, my local dairy processor tests every milk shipment that arrives at his plant. All fluid milk is pasteurized. Once this process has been completed, milk is packaged within 24 hours of arriving at a dairy processing plant. The packaged milk is then delivered to retailers and made available at your local grocery store.

Animal care

One of the secrets behind producing world quality milk is the welfare of our cows – one more reason why you can feel good about your decision to buy products made from 100% Canadian milk. Being a dairy producer means being responsible and committed. You have to be passionate about your work and care for the animals that provide you with milk every day.

My dairy cows benefit from the best possible nutrition, living conditions and veterinary care. In fact, all dairy producers in Canada must adhere to best management practices and high quality standards, which ensure that dairy cows receive the care they need to stay healthy and produce excellent quality milk.
